Grinder Gear Guide

A decent grinder is arguably one of the most important purchases you will make in your coffee journey. This is where unfortunately too often people cheap out on and get a grinder that will whack coffee beans into submission or explode them in a hopper leaving you with coffee grounds of all shapes and sizes. We recommend a good grinder because you will be able to fine tune the flavor profile of your cup simply by increasing or decreasing the size of your grounds to your liking. You would be surprised how much a difference a single grind size setting will make.

What to look for

What to look for greatly depends on your coffee brewing methods. Unless spending a significant amount of money, finding a single grinder that can grind fine espresso grounds as well as coarse french press grounds will be a challenge. If shopping for an espresso grinder, you will want a grinder with fine tuning adjustments that will allow you to make very incremental changes to grind size. In addition to the fine tuning setting, espresso grinder should be able to dose in order to have consistency in your grounds. For all other types of brewing methods, most chronicle burr grinders will work. It helps to have a grinder with a timer to grind the right amount of coffee consistently.
