How it all began...

UnionTown Coffee was born out of a love and passion for coffee. UnionTown founder Mohammad’s love for coffee began at the start of his engagement to his lovely wife Maryam. We would go out and every now and then stop by a cafe and at first it was only Maryam who would order a coffee. Whether it was peer pressure or just social coffee drinking, I started ordering my own cup rather than taking sips from my wife’s coffee. Eventually the world of coffee and all of its possibilities opened up. I began roasting green coffee beans in the oven. I then experimented with higher end roasted coffees. At some point I came to the realization that I love coffee and I love making things. From those two passions, a new hobby was born.

At UnionTown, we are passionate about bringing you good coffee at a price that doesn’t break the bank. We believe that there are coffee connoisseurs out there looking for a good cup of coffee plain and simple. We developed coffee blends to meet the pallets of our light, medium and dark coffee drinkers and have developed a knock out espresso blend. We also offer single origin coffee at a roast level of your choice.

Our namesake UnionTown is home to significant historic events. Much of the land was owned by a man named Gentleman Jim Robinson who was one of the wealthiest black land owners in Northern Virginia. It was on his property that the battle of Bull Run was waged. His home “Robinson House” was used by the Union soldiers as a makeshift hospital. Gentleman Jim Robinson's House foundation still stands and can be visited at the Bull Run national park in Manassas.

What is Specialty coffee

The journey of specialty coffee begins at the source. Coffee farmers have perfected the process of extracting premium flavors from their coffees. Ripe coffee cherries are hand picked, fermented, hulled and then sun or air dried. Specialty coffee is then screened leaving only the largest bean which are then inspected for defects.

UnionTown has partnered with coffee importers who share our love for impeccable coffees. Our import partners develop a relationship with the farmers to support and assist with maintaining the quality of product from the farm through the shipping process. Our partners sample coffees and only supply coffees that meet high specialty coffee standards.

UnionTown continuously samples coffees from various origins. We recognize that our customers have discerning taste but may not have access to the diversity of coffees to find the flavors that bring them joy. We sample dozens of coffees in order to find the smoothest, most flavorful coffees to bring to our customers.

It's UnionTown's mission to ensure the values in sustainability and recyclability are reflected in the way UnionTown operates. We designed our packaging to be nearly 100% recyclable. We use LLDPE (Recycling #4) gusseted bags in a kraft paper box. This not only presents a unique approach to packaging but also ensures we eliminate as much waste as possible.

To recycle our packaging, remove all stickers and dispose of them. Then place the box and coffee bag in the recycling bin to be recycled. We put a lot of thought into our packaging to eliminate as much waste as possible and are researching new compostable packaging technologies
